Furnitano furniture design guide
Furniture handles: how to choose the right design, colour and finish for a contemporary interior?
A furniture handle is no longer merely a detail used to open a door. It helps connect the design of the kitchen, living room, hallway, bathroom, wardrobe and even outdoor furniture into one coherent whole. The right handle can visually elongate a front, soften the appearance of furniture, highlight the grain of wood or become a subtle accent in a muted colour.
EuroCucina 2026 directions show that the kitchen is increasingly viewed not as an isolated technical room, but as part of the wider living environment. It merges with the living room, dining area and terrace, so handles should coordinate not only with kitchen fronts but also with dining cabinets, living-room sideboards, shelving and outdoor-kitchen furniture.
Furniture-handle and kitchen-design trends for 2026–2027
01
The kitchen merges with the living room and outdoor spaces
Kitchen fronts are increasingly repeated on living-room sideboards, display cabinets, work zones and outdoor kitchens. Universal handles are therefore preferred—not just for kitchen cabinets, but for the entire furniture collection. Restrained long handles, subtle edge profiles and a consistent finish across different areas of the home work particularly well.
02
Rounded forms replace strict lines
Sharp corners are giving way to rounded details, curved worktops, cylindrical elements and organically shaped islands. Oval, convex and gently curved handles with rounded ends and pleasant tactile surfaces are the best match for this furniture language.
03
Matt finishes become the default choice
Glossy chrome and bright gold are increasingly replaced by matt black, brushed brass, aged bronze, satin nickel and anthracite. Matt handles sit more calmly against large furniture fronts, compete less with stone textures and give an interior a more mature, lasting appearance.
04
Muted accent colours return with confidence
Moss green, clay, burgundy, tobacco, muted blue, sand and warm grey are returning to kitchens. These shades are no longer used as a short-lived accent—the colour becomes the foundation of the whole furniture composition. Bronze, brass, black metal, anthracite, pewter and natural wood work especially well with such fronts.
05
Mid-tone wood replaces extremely pale or very dark oak
Natural mid-tone oak, ash and walnut are being paired with soft neutral colours. Instead of cold polished steel, designers choose brushed nickel, brass, bronze, pewter or handles made from the same wood as the furniture.
06
Tactility is becoming as important as appearance
A handle is judged by the way it feels in the hand. Milled, ribbed, softly textured and natural-wood surfaces are becoming more popular. They give minimalist furniture character without relying on a strong glossy effect.
What does this mean when choosing handles?
A handle should be treated as the link between materials and colours. It can connect a kitchen front with the tap, lighting, table legs, living-room furniture or even details in an outdoor kitchen. A single family of finishes often creates the most coherent interior, although every element does not need to match exactly—brushed brass can work with warm nickel, while pewter can be paired with matt black.

Recessed handles
A recessed handle is let into the edge or face of a furniture front, preserving a clean silhouette. This is especially relevant in kitchens that visually merge with the living room and should resemble an architectural wall composition rather than a conventional bank of cabinets.
-

-
suit smooth, minimalist furniture surfaces;

available as short, long and cut-to-length profile handles;
